Elastix / FreePBX?

Hi,

I have an Elastix system that is hopelessly mangled. Since we only really use the Asterisk part, I’m wondering if just installing FreePBX would make sense.

Is this reasonable?

If so, is it possible to install FreePBX on top of what I have without totally destroying the Asterisk configurations?

How can I backup/restore Asterisk and take advantage of FreePBX and my existing Asterisk setup?

Clone the system, on the clone in un-embedded FreePBX upgrade iteratively to latest, remove all contexts with reference to elastix in /etc/asterisk/*.conf including any files with elastix in the name, do a full backup and then restore into your new FreePBX box with the same level of FreePPX as the clone. When all is working, through away the first two boxen.
