Digium Announces Keynote Speakers for AstriCon 2015, the Annual Asterisk User Conference

Industry Expert Dan York, Digium CEO Danny Windham and Sangoma CEO Bill Wignall to Share their Insights on the Future of Telephony

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., August 19, 2015Digium®, Inc., the Asterisk® Company, today announced the keynote presenters for the AstriCon Open Source User Conference and Exhibition to be held October 13-15, 2015, in Orlando, Fla. Keynote speakers include industry expert Dan York, Digium CEO Danny Windham and Sangoma CEO Bill Wignall.

Celebrating its 12th year, AstriCon remains the longest-running conference devoted to Asterisk, the most widely used open source communications platform in the world. AstriCon brings together the world’s open source enthusiasts – from code developers and Asterisk integrators, to service providers and enterprise IT professionals – who all share an interest in Asterisk.

York’s presentation will take place on Wednesday, October 14, at 9 a.m. ET and he will speak about “Open Source and the Global Disruption of Telecom – What Choices Will We Make?” Since 2005, he has written the “Disruptive Telephony” blog about VoIP and the changes happening within the telecom industry. He also authored the book “Seven Deadliest Unified Communications Attacks” and several other books on Linux and network technologies. Prior to joining the Internet Society in 2011, he worked for Voxeo on its hosted voice application platform and for Mitel Networks on a range of its IP-PBXs, handsets, SIP software and product security. He has also served as chair of the VoIP Security Alliance (VOIPSA) and has been involved with the real-time communications area of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) since 2005.

Windham will present on Thursday, October 15, at 9 a.m. ET and will chart the journey of communications from a standalone application to an essential element integrated into every aspect of running a business. He will highlight the changes along the way, and draw some conclusions on how any business can embed communications into their business processes to improve productivity and lower costs. Windham has served as CEO of Digium since 2007, responsible for setting corporate strategy and executing day-to-day business operations. Prior to joining Digium, he served as president and chief operating officer of ADTRAN, a global provider of networking and communications equipment.

Wignall’s luncheon keynote, “Everything Changes and Nothing Stands Still, the Philosophies of Business Transformation,” will take place on Wednesday, October 14, at 12:45 p.m. ET. As president and CEO of Sangoma, he leads the company in the execution of its growth strategy. He brings to Sangoma his personal style of working closely with existing customers and valued channel partners. Under his leadership, Sangoma is dramatically expanding its product portfolio and targeting new markets and territories to further accelerate growth.

The AstriCon conference contains multiple tracks with more than 45 sessions, offering attendees a variety of options during the three-day event. Topics include security and Asterisk-based distributions, Asterisk tutorials, Asterisk case studies, as well as sessions on WebRTC, speech technology, and how to build scalable and resilient solutions. A new addition this year is FreePBX World, a three-day event co-located at AstriCon where attendees will learn about open source business communications solutions, technology trends and FreePBX customer experiences.

“We are delighted this year to have three great keynoters that are well positioned to comment on the changes that Asterisk has precipitated in the field of communications,” said David Duffett, worldwide community director for the Asterisk project. “Once again, the Asterisk community has certainly delivered this year, with a very rich and varied collection of conference sessions, presented by those with front-line experience in the specific area of expertise. The sessions reveal a closer look at fascinating Asterisk implementations and those projects that work with Asterisk to deliver all sorts of scalable and resilient solutions, and include a glimpse into some of the more unusual uses of Asterisk.”

AstriCon 2015 is sponsored by Platinum Sponsors Sangoma, FreePBX by Sangoma and Tropo; and by Gold Sponsors Vitelity, XORCOM, NETXUSA, Twilio, Telephony Depot and Simcom. Additional sponsors include OrecX, Jenne, Inc., Loway, Grandstream, Cepstral, TeleDynamics, Easy on Hold, LumenVox, Algo, Global Convergence, Obhihai, Matrix, Imecom and SNOM.
