Calls to Cisco 7941 go to voicemail

Hi Community!

Iv’e got an Cisco 7941 that doesn’t want to show as “online” in FreePBX. And when I try to call it, FreePBX says the phone is “unvail” and automatically forwards the call to its voicemail.
I hope anybody has a solution for that.

Kind regards,
Mr. Rüdiger

I recommend capturing SIP traffic at the PBX related to this device. You can use pjsip set logger on at the asterisk console or use sngrep or any other network capture tool.

The old Cisco enterprise phones with SIP firmware required short passwords. Try also using an 8-character-or-less SIP password, entered in both your FreePBX Extension config and in your provisioning file.

Hi Bill,

I’ve tried said things but i couldn’t get any new information. I think we should stick to the fact, that the phone is showing as offline to Asterisk and therefore troubleshoot that part of the phone.

Kind regards,
Mr. Rüdiger

Yessir, the purpose of capturing the SIP traffic is to see whether the phone communicates with the server, specifically REGISTER requests which, when successful, will cause Asterisk to show the phone as “online.” How else do you propose to troubleshoot?
