BLF Key not monitoring virtual extension mailbox correctly

Hello, all. Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I have read and read through many posts on this topic, none of which seem to address my issue. Please don’t think I’m just posting without first trying to do some research!

In my FreePBX, I have a general mailbox virtual extension numbered 399. I want to make a BLF button on the telephones that monitor that voicemail box. I have made BLF buttons to *98399. When I push the button, it correctly puts me in the voicemail box, but I’m wanting the key to flash when a voicemail is left in the box. I thought this was supposed to work by default? It looks like this works with app-dialvm hints, but when I do a show hints in the CLI I do not see the app-dialvm hints. Do I need to have the FreePBX generate those hints or something? How can I get this to work?

Phone type matters. What phone are you using?

If you are not using phone apps, you will probably have to set up a different monitoring hint for that. Some phones provide a “dial” string for button push and a “watcher” for the hints generated for VM.

Thank you for your Reply. Yealink T29G. Will take a look at the settings now.

There have been a ton of questions about programming BLF and Function keys on the T29G over the past few months. I’d start by searching for T29G and looking through some of those.

I don’t use Yealink phones, so I can’t really help you more than that. Maybe someone with one of these beasts can pop in and make a suggestion.

Thank you much for your time. I will do some research on this issue with the T29G specifically. Maybe someone can chime in and help sooner!

Thanks!!

This should work provided:

  • You are runing the FreePBX Distro (not just FreePBX)
  • You have Voicemail Hints enabled in advanced settings
  • you have not changed the voicemail feature code from the default *98

Well, the only thing I’m not sure about is that I’m running FreePBX Distro. I might be using just FreePBX…

I’m new here… Can I upgrade my FreePBX to FreePBX Distro? Or, is there another way I can accomplish what I’m trying to do with just FREEPBX?
