I’m trying to build freepbx from source.

The instructions call for app_txfax and app_rxfax from soft-switch.org.

I can’t even locate those files, much less the patchfile.

How are people handing faxing in asterisk currently (1.2.18) ?
Does anyone know what’s going on with spandsp - what version we should be using when building with freepbx?

Hi, Did you manage to get fax receiving to email working? If so how? We have one on a PRI and it just won’t play…

Hi Phillip, I had assumed (wrongly?) that the required packages are already “in” FPBX/Trixbox. Are you saying one needs to install the packages anyway?

I just ran a locate for spandsp and as far as I can see it is already on board. Is there something else I am missing?

you need to follow the installation directions. That included getting rx_fax and building asterisk with it, installing spandsp, etc.

Hi again

It just occured to me, this was built off an AAH disk so surely the fax stuff IS installed. Probably misled you replying to this particular thread as it starts off building from scratch. Does that make a difference?

Hi all. RIGHT! It seems that, despite all appearances to the contrary the AAH/Trixbox cd does not actually do a usable install of the fax stuff. Many thanks to Phillipe for pointing us at the install instructions. Basically just re-install the fax app from scratch, it then works a treat! Do note tyhat the spandsp stuff has all been updated so alot of th elinks do not work but if you go to the sites you’ll see the newe files. Enjoy!

app_rxfax is ok and work well , but how to do enable txfax that how to send fax from email.

The whole fax thing sounds like conspiracy…
It looks like digium gradually wants to get rid of the soft fax feature and incorporate it in their hardware.
Same thing happened to chan_dialogic few years back.
I can understand that they’re not a non-profit organization, but it doesn’t make my life easier:)

Fax is working fine on 1.4.13 with spandsp-0.0.4pre15…

Hi,

I’m newbie and as it says I ran the command at linux prompt “install-pdf” I got error message saying command not found.

What is the fix for it?

Than from this post I found out I need to install spandsp and did what it says but got following error “Can’t build without libtiff”.

Q1: I’m using SIP Trunks only should I install spandsp or not?
Q2: How to install libtiff?

I have CentOS 5.0 installed.
