[Amportal-devel] Stewardship of the FreePBX project

As you would know by now, Coalescent have handed the freePBX project
over to me, so they can concentrate on GabCast.

Wow. How incredibly cool for me 8)

I’ve been meaning to write a public message of thanks since I was asked
about this, but I’ve been travelling all around the northern parts of
Australia the past week, and haven’t had a chance to sit down and
actually write anything down. So, this is it! Thanks for the support,
and the trust, to keep the freePBX project on track. Hopefully I won’t
do you guys wrong!

Now that I’ve been handed the reigns, it’s traditional to do a bit of
prophesy, to act as a bit of a guiding star. Here’s a couple of things
that I’ve been thinking about, that may or may not ever make it into
fruition:

x Bittorrent module distribution - with every machine automatically
updating its modules as they’re released (cron job, rss feed?)
x ‘Themes’ of freePBX - Call Center, Home, Small Office, A@H, etc. Each
picks a standard set of modules that are installed.
x A ‘release early, release often’ style. I’d like to get a new release
out at least every couple of weeks, and I’d really like to be able to do
online core updates too - but that brings in a whole pile of dangers
too.

I’m just about to do my first release - 2.1.1, which will, hopefully, be
the first of many.

If anyone wants to have a chat to me, I’m usually on the Online Support
IRC channel (irc.freenode.net, channel #freepbx) as X-Rob, or you can
send me an email!

Thanks again,

–Rob Thomas
