After Update Asterisk Hangs and Won't Shutdown

Yesterday morning, we received the following notification from our FreePBX system:

"SECURITY NOTICE:

Updated Certificates:
Some SSL/TLS Certificates have been automatically updated. You may need to
ensure all services have the correctly update certificate by restarting PBX
services"

Seeing this, I tried to run “core restart gracefully”. It hung (would not complete) and I had to restart the box (CentOS).

Since then, I am constantly restarting Asterisk. It continues to be unresponsive. Once I restart it will work for anywhere between 5 minutes and 2 hours.

I am seeing some errors in /var/log/asterisk/full and /var/log/asterisk/freepbx.log but there are no errors when asterisk hangs and stops working. The errors I am seeing in “full” happen before the system hangs so not sure if they’re related or not. I see them when doing a fwconsole restart:

The only error I see in freepbx.log is this:

[CRITICAL] (admin/bootstrap.php:260) - Connection attmempt to AMI failed

Any help would be appreciated. I’m not sure where to go with this. We installed FreePBX about 6 months ago and it’s been working great until now.

What version of Asterisk? Are you aware of this known issue:

Removal of Asterisk 13.26.0-1 and Asterisk 15.7.2-1

Hello! Quick update for you all, we’ve removed Asterisk 13.26.0-1 and 15.7.2-1 from our SNG7 repositories today after getting numerous complaints about Asterisk instability. We want to assure you that we do test all Asterisk instances but sometimes issues like these will slip through our own QA channel. To downgrade your Asterisk 13 simply run yum downgrade asterisk13* this will place you on Asterisk 13.22 That said we think we have identified the issue and have released 13.26-3 and 15.7.2-3 …

Thanks for the link Lorne. I am running 15.7.2. It looks like I need to downgrade.

I would asterisk-version-switch to 16

Lorne - Thanks for the great, fast advice! I have changed to version 16.3. Everything seems to be working for now. I’ll cross my fingers and watch it through today.
