Is it possible to access the freepbx box from its hostname instead of IP (internally only)? I can’t do this now but would like to for my users. Or a custom internal url? What about the ucp?
You would need to configure whatever is doing DNS for the hosts inside your network that are problematic to answer appropriately requests for that name with the ip address you want them to use.
In general you will need an A record entry
