32bit or 64bit?

Greetings,

I know in theory the 64bit version of the FreePBX software would be a better choice when installed on a hardware platform that supports it. I also believe the 32bit version is more widely used and better tested. Does anyone feel I should go with a 64bit version of the software for any reason? Are my views dated/incorrect?

I am building a FreePBX server on a Dell Optiplex 745 with 2GB of RAM and a E6600 Core 2 Duo. There are currently 5 Polycom IP330s with a maximum of 25 Polycom IP330s using SIP and G711.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Well, there isn’t really a 64bit version of FreePBX since it is just PHP scripts. The more important issue is 64 bit support of the drivers that you need for your hardware. I have yet to see any good solid data that says that Asterisk is going to perform significantly better on 64bit at this time. That plus with only 25 extensions performance is not going to be an issue on that server.
