*101 results in "You call not be completed as dialed"

101 is set up to have voicemail. It has an unavailable greeting. If I dial 101 and wait and let it ring unanswered I get voicemail. Under voicemail direct dial prefix, the default of * is present. Enable is selected.
When I dial *101 I get “Your call cannot be completed as dialed”
What am I missing?

Under Admin > Feature Codes you likely have a feature code specified using *1 or *10 that is conflicting. You can either disable any conflicting feature codes, or change your voicemail direct dial prefix in this same module to something other than *
