Public vs Static

If I have a server with a static IP that sits directly on the web, Amazon aws server, then should I have my Asterisk settings for IP set to Public or Static? I asked because I’m seeing a lot of people say that connection issues occur when you don’t enable nat but when you choose Public then nat is not an option.

I’m no expert, but if I recall, STATIC is used for single-address servers (where there’s no non-routable interior network to deal with) and PUBLIC is used when you have NAT attached phones and/or your server lives behind a firewall. For example, my system is set up with a Public address of 72.123.123.123, but my actual phone server lives on 192.168.0.3.
