Just want to share my thoughts with you. For the last two years I’m not happy with the CDR FreePBX gives to me. I’m always trying to get my information for the calls by reading CDR and CEL which never satisfied me.

So I just had the idea to build my own application, running as Docker on the FreePBX, accessing the Asterisk CDR and CEL records in the database directly. Frontend is a web server.

I’m trying to implement all infos I find useful, including a detailed call trace in detail view (Was the call parked? When was it transferred? And so on) as long as some flags in the list view (Queues involved, FM involved, Transfers involved) and a column with the information who ended the call.

I’m making some progress and so far I like it :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

We can all agree CDR app is quite terrible. If my memory is good, I think @franckdanard work on a FPBX module that looks like what you are doing.

Seeing your avatar I guess we should expect a lot of vibe coding ?

The array part looks great but Call Tiemline is as unreadable as actual Cel.

Hmmm. Well. Yes, I need to rework it, that’s a fact, and it should be more modern than the old version
But I need some free time to work on it. I have a bunch of modules waiting to be completed.

Honestly I’m not planning to make it open source. Out of one reason: I simply don’t have the time to maintain it. I’m doing this to get what I need (and how I like it). Once it’s done, it’s done (until I think I’ll improve it some more). It’ll be not fair to create an OS repo and then abandom it, disregard PR’s because of the lack of time and ignore feature requests.

I might give it away as “donationware” if someone wants it as it is. No maintenance guarantee, no “I’ll fix it if it breaks in 5 years” … I just don’t have the capacity for this beside my job.

If you want to play with it drop me a PM and I’ll give you something to play with once I think it’s fine.

Seriously, back to that discussion. Yes, after my Tellows-Superfecta-Source (which was not vibe coded) this is my second FreePBX related project … and yes: A lot of vibe coding. As far as I know also @franckdanard does not manually handcraft every single code line :smirking_face:

I don’t like that kind of discussion. I’ve read the same in a very nice project (Betterdesk) and I was very angry how people bothered the maintainer because “so much is vibe coded”.

In 2026, Claude Code & Co in my opinion are not “oh, every script kiddie can write an app” things but a kind of employees.

In my work life I’m a software and hardware engineer (embedded platforms) and CTO of a company focused of industrial critical communications and SCADA, with >35 years job experience. Started with Assembler programming when there was no public internet on the horizon and many of you guys not even born.

Yes, I know engineering. I know how to develop projects from scratch. Did nothing else the last 4 decades.

Do I know database queries, web design, Python and all this really in depth? Nope.

Do I know how to lead a team, define specs, develop the big view, test, review code and tell people what I expect? Yes.

So I did this in my free time with my one-person employee called Claude. Who is an incredible fast programmer rookie. Not an experienced guy you can simply let run. Someone you need to check every step he did, telling him what he can do better next time, and who needs strict specs.

Sorry that you triggered this what is on my soul since months and which grew after every discussion like this facing maintainers of great OSS projects :blush:

Yes, but it does not mean “Throw it in the wild, write ‘This is my initial commit, looking for a maintainer, do what you want with it’”
