Why are some extensions not quite grayed out?

I’m running the latest version of AsteriskNOW.

I’m having problems connecting between extensions in the admin panel (http://www.fueclinics.com/screenshot.png) you will see that the extension 1010 is not the same colour as 1012. Both phones are CISCO 7940

1010 is an external extension, connecting via a VPN (Netgear DGFV338)
1012 is within the same network as the server.

I can call 1012 from 1010 but can’t call 1010 from 1012, all I get is VM.

Thanks for looking, any help will be great.

Jeremy.
