Where's the Basic TTS Engine?

When someone uses our “dial by name” directory, their name is read out in a computerized voice. That’s because in the Applications > Directory, the “Name Announcement” field is set to “Text to Speech.”

To be clear, I have not done anything to our FreePBX install to add a text to speech engine; this just works.

So my question is, how can I use this very basic text to speech engine elsewhere in FreePBX? I don’t need it for anything public facing, so the basic quality is just fine for me. But when I go to Settings > Text to Speech Engines, I don’t see anything listed there, preventing me from creating and utilizing Applications > Text to Speech.

In case anyone else stumbles on this thread looking for the same info as me, I found it over the weekend.

The basic TTS engine FreePBX is using is called “flite” and it can be found in “/usr/bin/flite”

Enjoy!
