Where to start?

So, new here. Seems like there’s a lot on this forum that I don’t understand yet. What would be a good place to start?

Check out Crosstalk Solutions youtube channel on freepbx setup. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l30WKTYf9ZY&list=PL1fn6oC5ndU_umAhL9A_1zkC90hMPDPNO

What are you trying to do? Reading the documents is a good place to start. Reading more up on what your dad is doing with the PBX is also a good place to start.

I would also start with the Freepbx 16 ISO(if you are just trying to learn), the installation is easier.

I think his dad specified Raspberry Pi, which rules out the distro.

Umm… Sorry to burst your bubble, but that problem has been fixed. Thanks anyway, and sorry for the outburst earlier, was a bit stressed back there.

Thanks, will watch, however, much of the specifics of the interface are switched around in FreePBX 17, which was quite confusing at first. Will watchfully whenever I get some free time.

Knowing where to start is directly linked to what goal you want to achieve with FreePBX.

For example, if you are installing FreePBX to place phones in rooms in a house so they can talk to each other, you should start by creating extensions and configuring them on the phones.

If you want to set up a call center, where customers can call to be connected to operators, you should create queues and inbound routes.

To make it easier to understand, imagine FreePBX as an engine - what do you want to power with this engine, a car? A washing machine?

In other words, understanding where to start depends on what goal you want to achieve.

However, reading the documentation is a great way to start as well, so you will know all the possibilities and scenarios that FreePBX can handle.
