What is the ManagerAPI?

In exploring some of the new modules, I found one that I don’t quite get. The “Asterisk API (manager).”

Anyone willing to expound?

Thanks, I am looking forward to testing the Asterisk Zimlet. I would imagine that this is how I make the hooks so the two can exchange data.
