Warm Spare - have never been able to get working

Good evening, all.

I’ve tried on and off a dozen times over the past few years to get the Warm Spare setup working, but have NEVER been able to. The failure is always on getting the keys set up so the warm box doesn’t have to log into the primary box.

https://wiki.freepbx.org/display/FPG/Warm+Spare+Setup

I’m never able to copy the ID file over (password is good for the initial copy, but complains it isn’t). Tried copying manually and changing permissions of the file to the asterisk user, but still no such luck…

Does anyone have any thoughts on why the key exchange element never seems to work?

Thanks.

ssh -vvvv user@otherbox -p (port)

might well show what’s not worked

OK, that was beautiful - I had no idea you could do verbose logging like that for SSH as well. (Now, how do I get that logging level back to no logging - it’s now doing it for everything - lol)

It’s likely the key failure is happening because I wasn’t able to use the Wiki method of copying the file over (assuming that does more than just move the file), and my manual method of moving it missed those parts…

Here was the error when trying to issue that copy command in the Wiki:

the ssh verbosity is ephemeral as far as how many -v’s you use on a particular connection, there should be no “memory” unless you have added it to your .ssh/config or the global one

Ended up finding a 5-step tutorial online and incorporated it’s elements into the Wiki instructions, to create this (which now works like a charm):

On RECEIVING System:
sudo -u asterisk ssh-keygen
ssh [email protected] mkdir -p /home/asterisk/.ssh
cat /home/asterisk/.ssh/id_rsa.pub | ssh [email protected] ‘cat >> /home/asterisk/.ssh/authorized_keys’

On SENDING System:
chmod 700 /home/asterisk/.ssh
chmod 640 /home/asterisk/.ssh/authorized_keys
chown asterisk:asterisk .ssh
chown asterisk:asterisk .ssh/authorized_keys

On RECEIVING System (to test):
sudo -u asterisk ssh [email protected]
(Should allow logging in without needing a password)
