The in1click solution went perfectly. (34 min, it is more verbose) but again, I went to the first UI screen, entered my login , etc … clicked on “forward” or “confirm set-up”. It asked me the said login, a message invalid credential poped-up , and “unaccessible site” .
No more way to connect as root or a user on the VM (by SSH or directly).
It is not the first time it happens. I do not find anything relevant on the forums.
As said , I am a newbie but… this is madness.
Check you are reaching the GUI on http and not https. SSH won’t just work, first uncomment and edit PermitRootLogin yes in nano /etc/ssh/sshd_config, save, exit then systemctl restart ssh. If you got as far as enabling the firewall, then try fwconsole firewall stop
Thx @kierknoby
Booting again the VM, playing with the setting of the browser to disable any kind of automatic https, and turning the firewall on stop allowed me to reconnect on ssh as root but I still have an UI ajax warning telling me invalid credentials and it justs crash (blank screen on UI, no more reaction on the ssh terminal). Did not have the time to do the unlock id session. Will try after my next reboot without trying to login.
I am not a massive expert but I do manage few websites and some services as dockers, but I truly do not know what happens here.
The ip is still available on my local network and the services on my host computer are still running.
What funny it is when the site becomes inaccessible, and only once it crashs the “htpps” looks force by FF to tell me the site is unaccessible.
I read that Freepbx was an easy way to manage Asterix and just wanted to give it a try, just feel like having lost a full week .
15 min later : At the moment, redoing the PermitRootLogin yes and fwconsole unlock , I do have access to the setting, I am at the activation stage and I won’t play with the firewall… I keep you informed once I will have passed my first phone call or if I have any other issues.
(The “Activate button” sent me on an https page : blank screen. Erasing the “s” , I had to press several time on the “Activate” button to go further”.
I am at the dashboard, and scared for the soon to come reboot of the VM.
I am going to play with the frog now (I am a froggy myself)
Thanks to you all.
My Bitdefender often causes problems. Rest assured, once you are past the activation stage, you’ll be ok. I haven’t quite managed to pin down what causes the https issue when it’s trying to stay on port 80, it never used to do that and perhaps someone else knows? When it happens, I press a few buttons and somehow always get through it: restart this and that, go incognito, tell Bitdefender to politely clear off, and then it’s working again. I lose GUI after pressing activation sometimes, but it’s never as bad as then requiring a re-install. Anything else is likely unrelated.
Thank you for all. I have tried to add some extensions, another ajax message popped up, and blank screen.
No sure it is related but my host server decided to disconnect for the first time in 2 years. It needs me around on reboot and I am not close to it. Must be its way to tell me, time to go to bed.
I will keep you informed, and will do a proper review of the log. First goal tomorrow, connecting two softphones together on my local network.
I am on Ubuntu by the way (Not Bitdefender on my installation).
OK.
So I have been able to install 2 softphones and pass a call between them.
But everytime I want to login using fwconsole <unlock id session>
I did double check my login and password in the admin page, but no way to login without fw console. And after 4 attempts with invalid credentials, blank screen. And I need to restart de VM…
At least it is going forward.
Weird. Is your keyboard layout set for the right country? Try something simpler without symbols and see if that works, temporarily. Whitelist your IP in fail2ban.
@kierknoby Weird is the word. Typing in the field login, I can see that my locals are correct. I did create another admin user without special characters in the password (do not tell anybody ). It looks like working.
