We would like to move to Asterisk 1.8 most importantly for the Google Voice support that can be allowed after the upgrade. We are running a system with FreePBX 2.9 and Asterisk 1.4 (32-bit).
Could someone please help and guide us the way to go about this without breaking the system and FreePBX itself.

From FreePBX’s perspective you don’t need to do anything, it will pick it up.
As far as upgrading Asterisk, the procedure depends on how the system was installed.
It’s a CentOS system so at the time I followed the tutorial we compiled asterisk and required other components (DAHDI etc.). Then installed FreePBX based on scripts available online at the time.
As I understand it the data in the database is compatible between 1.8 and 1.4 but the bits I am unsure about are the scripts FreePBX manages how will 1.8 suddenly react to everything set out for 1.4.
We would appreciate any infos or tutorials.
