I have downloaded and installed the latest Freepbx distro a couple of weeks ago and used it to setup my pbx. The distro comes with PHP 5.1.6. Quite a few addons I would like to install and run require PHP 5.3.0 or higher.
Can anyone tell me if it is safe for me to manually upgrade php to higher version on the server without breaking freepbx. Any specific version of php I should avoid or just go and install the latest?
Nima,
Any newer FreePBX Distro version comes preinstalled with PHP 5.3. If your getting PHP 5.1.6, you are either using an old FreePBX Distro version or another distribution. With that said, if you want to use any of our commercial modules, you need to have the FreePBX Distro or PBX in a Flash version 2.0.6 or newer. Those are the only distributions the commercial modules are currently supported on at this time.
AsteriskNow does not use PHP 5.3 at this time. The latest DAHDi Config module requires PHP 5.3 to work. Both PBX in a Flash and The FreePBX Distro (which can be downloaded under our downloads section) offer PHP 5.3 at this time.
