Trouble provisioning Cisco 7940G

Greetings,

I’m having some difficulty making a Cisco 7940G (with SIP firmware) communicate with my FreePBX Distro:

Distro v. 3.211.63-10-x86_64
Asterisk 11.4.0

I have enabled the Cisco/Linksys package, and clicked “Enable” for the 7940G; and assigned it extension 300.

When the phone boots it says “Configuring VLAN” for a long time, obtains an IP address, says “No load specified” (not sure if before or after tftp), hits the TFTP server for configuration with this log entry:

In /var/log/messages:

Mar 5 17:35:37 pbx in.tftpd[27967]: RRQ from 1.1.1.2 filename CTLSEP001A2FA6F156.tlv
Mar 5 17:35:37 pbx in.tftpd[27968]: RRQ from 1.1.1.2 filename SEP001A2FA6F156.cnf.xml

Then goes back to “Configuring VLAN” for a shorter while, obtains an IP address, and hits TFTP for:

Mar 5 17:37:15 pbx in.tftpd[28200]: RRQ from 1.1.1.2 filename SIPDefault.cnf Mar 5 17:37:15 pbx in.tftpd[28201]: RRQ from 1.1.1.2 filename SIP001A2FA6F156.cnf

Then the screen says “Phone Unprovisioned” and it repeatedly requests

Mar 5 17:38:48 pbx in.tftpd[28424]: RRQ from 1.1.1.2 filename SIP001A2FA6F156.cnf

about once per 30 seconds. This file does not exist.

Would anybody have any tips as to what is not configured correctly?

Thanks!

This update is for the sake of search engine hits.

I found this thread after posting mine:

http://www.freepbx.org/forum/freepbx/general-help/end-point-manager-with-cisco-phones

It states that using “7940” instead of “7940G” as the device type causes the endpoint manager to write the SIP.cnf file. As soon as I changed it, on the next request, it loaded the SIP.cnf file.

This issue may have been fixed in newer versions of FreePBX Distro; I am a few major revisions behind on my installation.
