Switching to Active Directory users

Just thought I would ask a quick question…

I’ve read some of the ways users can be integrated to extensions using Active Directory, and I’d like to enable AD authentication to play around with this. My question is, what happens to the internal users list? Basically our internal users list (almost) mirrors the users we have in AD. I’d like to enable it and test it without affecting our current setup of internal freepbx users associated with extensions. I don’t want a surprise and wipe out the internal list.

It shouldn’t delete any extensions. User Management in your case, would sync all AD users into FreePBX and then allow you to link them to the existing extensions so that employees can log into the User Control Panel with their AD credentials. Synced users go into User Management module, and all your current users are in the Extensions module, so you wouldn’t see them doubled up or anything either.
