Pretty common questions I’m sure. Out of the box vm install and I cant get it to authenticate with freepbx which is weird as I just did setup my softphone with the office pbx earlier this week. Its saying failed to authenticate but that cant be right because I literally cut and copied the password.
Pretty common answer coming . . . configurations, configurations, configurations and logs,logs,logs , with none of those , you will have to wait for our resident clairvoyant but she is currently unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances 
Your not wrong, rebuilt my vm with a older version of asterisk and double checked all the configs. I dont know what it was but I think it was port related. Everything works now which is great.
