Ring extension before dropping to IVR

I’m somewhat new to FreePBX so I’m still trying to get the hang of it.

How can I set it up so incoming calls (via ZAP in my case) ring an extension (the receptionist) before going to an IVR? I also want to set it up to use the day/night mode so that after hours (or during lunch) it skips ringing the receptionist’s desk.

There are lots of ways people do this. Make the ‘extensions’ actually a ringgroup or queue, and destination if no answer becomes the IVR. Then put the receptionist as a member to the queue or ringgoup.

As far as daynight mode, take a look at the article published a few weeks back, it’s in the Technical Corner, it explains how to do what you want.

Ah, fantastic. That works perfect.

I didn’t have the ring groups module installed. I didn’t realize they had the “Destination if no answer” option.
