Been using the OpenVpN Server configured with System Admin Pro and Android OpenVPN client with success:

A general recommendation for VOIPing from cell phones is to use TCP rather than UDP to conserve battery life. That would go for either direct connections or VPN’s.

Generally your server should have the security applied. Attacks against voip clients on a cell phone would be a new thing. I am not saying it can’t happen but we would have to wait until such a vector be identified.
