FreePBX: 13.0.188.8
Asterisk: 13.11.2
CentOS 6
This is a clean install using: wiki.freepbx.org/display/FOP/Installing+FreePBX+13+on+CentOS+6 . When trying to apply config I receive the following error.
exit: 1
Unable to connect to remote asterisk (does /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.ctl exist?)
Exception: Unable to connect to Asterisk through the CLI in file /var/lib/asterisk/bin/retrieve_conf on line 43
Stack trace:
1. Exception->() /var/lib/asterisk/bin/retrieve_conf:43
**Both asterisk.ctl and retrieve_conf files are present and in the correct location
To correct this I run the code below and the problem is corrected until next reboot:
asterisk -rx 'core stop now'
fwconsole start
Both asterisk and freepbx seem to be running at boot since I can get to the GUI and I see that asterisk is running in the gui.
I am using /etc/rc.local to start freepbx at boot.
Output of /etc/rc.local and /etc/rc.d/rc.local:
#!/bin/sh
#
# This script will be executed *after* all the other init scripts.
# You can put your own initialization stuff in here if you don't
# want to do the full Sys V style init stuff.
touch /var/lock/subsys/local
#make sure asterisk starts on boot
/usr/sbin/fwconsole start
# set a random pass on first boot
if [ -f /root/firstrun ]; then
dd if=/dev/urandom count=50|md5sum|passwd --stdin root
passwd -l root
rm /root/firstrun
fi
if [ ! -d /root/.ssh ]; then
mkdir -m 0700 -p /root/.ssh
restorecon /root/.ssh
fi
Thanks in advanced

I am guessing you are starting Asterisk through init.d? It should be started only through FWConsole in a FreePBX System.
Use chkconfig to see if init.d is starting it, and if it is, remove it and let FWConsole start it.

Thanks for the response Greg!
I believe I am using fwconsole to start asterisk/freepbx per the line /usr/sbin/fwconsole start in /etc/rc.local. Perhaps I am missing something.

Nope, you are starting Asterisk through init.d - turn it off:
chkconfig asterisk off
and then reboot and see if that problem goes away.

You the man Greg!
chkconfig asterisk off - did the trick
