Rejection when creating an extension using an existing extension number

Is it possible to have an error window pop-up when you attempt to create a new extension using an already existing extension number? Sometimes extension numbers are restricted or used by paging, ring groups, etc… and do not show up in the Extension module listing when creating a new one.

Currently, using FreePBX 2.8.1.0 and earlier versions, after creating a new extension with an existing extension number, nothing happens after submitting. There is no feedback to the user that the extension is already in use. The user is left feeling that FreePBX broke. It would be nice if an error message appeared somewhere to say “Hey stupid, that extension number is already in use”

the code is actually there, something broke it somewhere along the way and there is a solution being worked to fix it.
