Problem when using directory to limit direct dial

We manage a system where there are 3 different offices locations from the same company. Each location has its own DID and IVR. In the IVRs, we limit the direct dial with directories to limit the possible extensions that can be dialed. When using this function, if an invalid extension is dialed, the system simply hangs up instead if playing a message like “the selection is invalid”.

Is there a way to correct this ?

Edit: I know I can disable Direct Dialing and progam all extensions as options in the IVR but I would prefer to avoid this.

I had no other option than program all extensions manually in the IVR
