Polycom 430 and 550 Remote setup

I want to start experimenting with Polycom phones as remote stations. I have been successful with all manner of Softphone and the Snom 320's I use.

I have searched far and wide but am unable to find any info on Polycom's as remote stations. Can anyone lend a hand? I am going to try a PBXes and Teliax setup.

Robert,
Polycom’s are picky but in general, the setup is almost identical to a local setup. All the standard rules apply (go take a look at the how-to I just wrote, although you probably already know that part). The only difference is in the past (pre 2.0 firmware if I recall) you had to set the registration time down to about 60 seconds so it could keep a hole punched through it’s local firewall. Polycom finally added a keepalive option to do the same, although I have yet to use it because I have not yet decided to ‘fix what is not broken…’

That there is very little setup data available. Any advise about the ftp server setup or if (with the case of Teliax) there is not tftp or ftp server to use?

Robert

Oh yeah - the ftp server setup. That part is painful because of the insecure nature of ftp…too much to go into right now because I need to run off, it may be easier to talk live on that one unless someone else comes to the rescue here before we get a chance.

I am going to continue to attempt self rescue as well.

If I am setting up a Polycom to my own system… More of a firewall issue and I can do. Polycom to an ITSP? not so much. Just so I knew I wasn’t bonkers, I remote connected to a snom 320 and had it working in a minute. I have to say that the snom GUI is the best I’ve used.

So, while I like Polycom well enough, using an ITSP with one seems a considerable effort. Too much. I am going to keep trying.
