PJSIP Extension with Blank Password

I have a proxy performing registration in front of FreePBX.

14.0.13.26

Using ChanSIP Extension with blank password:
REGISTER request: no 401 reply
INVITE request: no 407 reply

Using PJSIP Extension with blank password:
REGISTER request: 401 reply
INVITE request: 407 reply

Is this intended with PJSIP and is there a work around? Or can anyone confirm behavior is different in newer versions?

Looks like the same issue raised here by another Dan: SIP Call without Authorization Header. I don’t know if they opened a ticket or not.
