Not able to call inbound routes with extension, only from an external phones

I am new to Freepbx. We are on FreePBX which we just upgraded from The issue I am having is that when test inbound routes I call the number from an extension you get a very short dial tone and then die air for 30 seconds then it disconnects. If I call with my cell phone it rings, hits the IVR, goes to the queue, then to the agent or voicemail. Has anyone else had this issue?

That is the way inbound routes work. They are only selected for inbound calls (from a service provider).
