NEC Handset Upgrade to IP details

OK, not so much of a freepbx or a trixbox or an asterisk question… But…

I am looking to replace for a client their aging Commander System. Not sure what commander model - but it’s currently running about 6 FXO’s and 18 FXS’s. (Except it’s not IP).

The Handsets are NEC DTR-8D-1… Poking around the net, I see reference to both an equivalent IP version the ITH-8D, and an adaptor to make the DTR-8D an IP phone - HAs anyone been down this path, or know the NEC Handsets (or a supplier of) very well? If we can get NEC adaptors to switch these to direct IP, then they can keep the handsets which stops a bunch of user problems (it’s different so it must be the reason why I can’t use it)

This also saves buying a bunch of ATA’s/FXS’s.

Not quite - existing phones are all over the businesses “campus” and the wiring is flakey, and prone to lightening. They have run fibre out to remote 10/100 switches, so that makes more sense (electrically isolating) The Citel unit looks like it does it all close to the ip pbx.

What I am looking at is NEC DTR-8D Digital Phones. There is a sister model called the ITH-8D or possible the ITR-8D. These are meant to be IP Phones. However I have also seen reference to an “IP Adaptor” for the DTR-8D.

The other option is lots of FXS’s clustered around the grounds… THis seems more elegant, if I can find out where to get them from …

http://www.twacomm.com/catalog/model_DTR-8D-1.htm says IP capable with an IP adaptor… Hold on just found. http://www.caltelephone.com/cat13_1.htm
that indicates that if you take the base USD185 phone, and add the USd233 ip adaptor, you have the equivaalent of the USD270 phone… hmmm scrap that idea…

q

Do you mean the Citel SIP Handset Gateway (http://www.citel.com) for NEC
handsets?
