Is it possible for a user to set an automatic timeout on call forwarding?

Just wondering if it possible for a user to set an automatic timeout on call forwarding?

If we are talking about Asterisk’s basic call forwarding (turned on and off by *nn commands) then no - the call is basically forwarded off the system and wherever it is forwarded to controls the call from then on.

However, if you set up a follow-me (which, bear in mind, does not have to include the original extension in the list of numbers to call, effectively making it a form of intelligent call forwarding) then you can have the effect of forwarding the call, but still take it back to send it to voicemail, an operator, another extension, etc. after a certain amount of time if the call isn’t answered on the distant end.
