also any settings i would need… any help would be reat
Easiest way to go is boot the VM with a distro iso (there is one here to download) it will take care of it all for you apart from the networking which is up to you.
when i tell it to boot and i point it to the image the VM keeps rebooting
Then you are doing something wrong 
, did you check the md5sum of the iso image?
