I need node v16 for another node app - guessing I can’t upgrade node? It’s currently at v8.16
The stock distro version isn’t in a spot where it can easily change. There are some alternatives that might help get you unstuck, like using nvm to install a custom version for a specific use case (if you’re not already familiar with it).
