Just thought I’d follow-up with my latest findings/results. Firstly a summary:
Existing: Trixbox 2.6 (Asterisk 1.4, FreePBX < 2.5)
1052 extensions, “apply configuration” < 15 secs.
Upgrade 1: Trixbox 2.8.04 (Asterisk 1.6, FreePBX 2.9 - upgraded from distro)
1052 extensions, “apply configuration” > 15 minutes!
Some responses to my pleas for help suggested that over 1000 extensions was likely reaching the limits of Asterisk/FreePBX. However, given the results of “Existing”, this did not seem like a plausible explanation to me. So, as a way to validate the assertion about the platform, I tried:
Upgrade 2: FreePBX-net-1.8.1.2 distro (Asterisk 1.8, FreePBX 2.9)
1052 extensions - restored from backup of “Upgrade 1”,
“apply configuration” still > 15 minutes!
Not looking good at this point! But then I tried:
Upgrade 3: FreePBX-net-1.8.1.2 distro (Asterisk 1.8, FreePBX 2.9)
1052 extensions - rebuilt, not restored from any previous.
Now “apply configuration” < 10 seconds!
In other words, removing Trixbox completely from the equation, removed the problem! And Asterisk/FreePBX has no problems with 1052 extensions.
