I ask if, in developer or advanced user’s opinions, FreePBX Distro 6.12.65 (although being now in its Alpha stage) would be suitable if deployed into a production system in which only (and strictly only) the FAX Pro Commercial Module (and Sys Admin Commercial Module too) will be used as the main component?
The purpose is to offer an up-to-date system only (sigh!) to provide (basic) FAX Server facilities. The system will be connected to two ISDN (S0) BRI lines (DAHDI Module will be used to manage that maybe using Digium B410P PCI card), both lines exclusively dedicated as FAX (in/out) trunks.
The main idea is to provide a simple (because FAX Pro is actually “simple”) but effective way to receive, store and e-mail forwarding of incoming FAXes, eventually letting the user (mainly just only one user, the receptionist) to send outgoing FAXes via her/his User Portal’s Web Page instead of using the old analog G3 FAX machine.
Already knowing that FreePBX Distro is not a full featured FAX Server (but can act as a basic FAX Server with its known limitations, discussed yet in this same Forum), should I prefer the FreePBX Distro 5.211.65 (Stable) against FreePBX Distro 6.12.65 (Alpha) or I’m totally wrong in thinking that FreePBX Distro could be a good solution to use in this specific FAX Server scenario (underrating FreePBX Distro potential or overrating FAX Pro one)?
Thanks Tony, I’ll follow your advice (Asterisk 11) for sure if I’ll go with FreePBX Distro 6.12.65 but, more important to, is understand if that scenario - described as I did - could result in a successful deployment or FreePBX Distro is not the right choice?
Apart from the lack of direct FAX phone numbers’ access from User Portal and some other cosmetic User Portal enhancements (in the end user will use that portal to send FAX) I feel that FAX Pro is quite good.
Yes and FreePBX 12 new User Control Panel has not been pushed out yet. Its still being worked on so at this time you wont gain anything with FreePBX 12. In a month or so you would have access to the new UCP on 12 if you go with 6.12.65 ISO
That would be great! So using FreePBX Distro 6.12.65 initially with Asterisk 11 will let me to switch to Asterisk 12 when the new UCP will be released in order to benefit from its new features. Good.
Just another question:
Could the FAX Pro Commercial Module be purchased yet to cope with the actual FreePBX Distro 6.12.65 (Asterisk 11 or 12) or should I wait the release of the new UCP first?
In other words: Will the FAX Pro Commercial Module’s deployment be independent from to new UCP and will it run transparently during migration from ARI to UCP?
(1) sorry, confused FreePBX 12 with Asterisk 12. With new FreePBX 12 -> UCP.
(2) Yes, I know. So FreePBX FAX Pro is (and will be) agnostic in regards to FreePBX 11/12 or Asterisk 11/12 and ARI/UCP.
