Hello everyone! Long-time lurker, first time poster here.
I have a few questions regarding the security of a freepbx 14 install on a vultr instance. I have setup a few freepbx systems on a local LAN successfully, but never on a public IP as vultr supplies to all of its instances. I am not sure how I feel about having the configuration console accessible on the public internet after reading the many horror stories floating around.
-
How secure is a publicly facing PBX?
-
What security measures should be implemented on a vultr instance? I see that they have a built in firewall. Is this sufficient to protect the PBX?
-
Is it possible to disable to public facing IP and setup a VPN and connect my extensions that way?
-
Should I just buy hardware and host my own PBX?
Any there any other recommendations you may have?
Thanks everyone for the help!
Mike
