FAX in 2.3 and Asterisk 1.4

I searched the forums and could not find any clear cut answer as to the following:

Does FreePBX and Asterisk 1.4 support FAX? I would like to incorporate a system extension that will allow me to receive faxes without using a traditional fax machine. Any direction here would be GREATLY appreciated.

Yes FreePBX supports it. I’ve heard people report issues getting Asterisk 1.4 to compile properly with the spandsp library to process faxes with RxFax but I believe some have gotten it working. But you could load Asterisk 1.2 and you’ll be fine. There is almost nothing extra in Asterisk 1.4 that FreePBX is currently taking advantage of and 1.2 remains much more stable then 1.4 at this time although 1.4 does continue to get more solid with each new release.

I used this same process on 2.3.1.1 and Asterisk 1.4.14 and it worked.

Is it possible and is there a guide for fax out? I am runnign physical lines on a Digium board…
