Does /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.ctl exist?

I upgraded from 1.6 to 1.8 using the steps above without any errors during the installation. I followd the steps from

Now when I did amportal start, this is what I get…

Unable to connect to remote asterisk (does /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.ctl exist?)

Any ideas?

That thread is about installing Asterisk, not upgrading.

Check your /var/log/asterisk/full for any errors why Asterisk fails to start.

You need to remove all modules not coming from 1.8 from /usr/lib/asterisk/modules, best approach is to remove all files in that directory, the do make install again
