Disallow deleted extensions to activate firewall ban

We have some unused extensions and we are not allow to delete it till we can clear the settings on the IP Phone. or else it will try to connect back to pbx and since it will reach the firewall threshold, the IP will be banned and all user in the site can’t access phone.

is there anything we can do to stop this from happening? will having a SBC in front of FreePBX help with this ?

Yes. Get the user to ship the phone to you first, BEFORE you delete it.

Change the extension context from from-internal to some giberish, it will still be able to register, but won’t make or receive calls.

Wouldn’t the simple solution be “Unplug the phones not being used anymore”? That is if these are single extension phones.
