Directory Listing needs to be forwarded to Assistant

Greetings All,

When callers use the directory and spell the bosses name, I would like for them to be forwarded to the assistant’s directory.

/etc/asterisk/voicemail.conf

[default]
201 => 1234,Assistant,attach=no|saycid=no|envelope=no|delete=no
202 => 1234,Boss,attach=no|saycid=no|envelope=no|delete=no

I can achieve this now by changing voicemail.conf to:

[default]
201 => 1234,Assistant,attach=no|saycid=no|envelope=no|delete=no
201 => 1234,Boss,attach=no|saycid=no|envelope=no|delete=no

The drawback is that this file will be overwritten quickly and write protecting the file will cause other problems.

Is there a better way to do this? The boss has no need for VM, ALL external messages go to his assistant. All internal messages are via email.

Feature Request Time?

Thanks!
George

Editing the voicemail.conf in this way is not recommended.
Why not create a extra extension with Voicemail for the Boss (only way to be listed in the directory currently), have him record his name, then go in and forward that extension to the assistant. Then on his primary extension remove voicemail.

Someplace I also placed a patch for making a Extension hidden from the directory service for those who want to have voice mail but not be found. I’ll track that down and update with another message.

Here is the link to hide a person in the directory and still have voicemail…
