I’ve been working with FreePBX/asterisk for a few months now, apperantly I still have plenty to learn because this one has me stumped.
If I assign a incoming route directly to an extension (lets say extension 100), it rings normally.
If I assign a incoming route to a ring group with several extensions (ring group 601 has extensions 100 and 101), they all ring normally.
If I try to directly dial the exact same extension (100) from any internal phone (101, 102, 103, 104), the call arrives at the phone (caller id displays) but it does not “audibly” ring.
I assume that eliminates some of the obvious… DND, route misconfigurations, registrations, etc.
The phones are all Polycom 560s. Directly dialing extensions definitely used to make them ring, but I’m not sure when I last tested that.
I’ve been keeping up with the asterisk/freepbx/plugin updates as they show up on the FreePBX Admin web interface, as well as the operating system updates with yum update. I also experimented briefly with FollowMe this morning, but I have since disabled and uninstalled it.
This issue appears to be specific to Polycom phones. I setup a softphone and when I dial its extension, it audibly rings. Also, if I call a polycom extension from the softphone, the polycom audibly rings. So this appears to be a Polycom > Polycom issue. Does that help narrow things down?
The extensions I was calling from were in the phone’s contact directory and their entries had 1 which was causing the phone to ring visually only. I changed that to Ringback-style and all is well.
The softphone I was testing from was a new extension that was not in the directory.
