Call Forwarding only Works Internally for extenstions

Very much a beginner but when trying to enable Call Forwarding and inserting outside numbers, the call simply goes to voicemail of the original number. I have tried with the preface to dial out without the preface and just the forwarding number with and without 1. Is external call forwarding a feature that has to be purchased additionally?

you have to place a # after the outside number.

Example: 9995551212#

I’m sorry for the lack of info. When I input the forwarding number into the Follow-Me List with the hashtag it will forward when being transferred to a EXT. When trying to forward using the menu on the actual phone it simply bypasses the forwarding.
Example: Someone calls phone with EXT, follow me works in forwarding
Someone calls phone with DID with follow me or phone forwarding, it ignores it.

I’m sorry but I’m not really understanding what you’re describing.

If you set the Forwarding on the phone itself, you are duplicating the Follow-Me Function with unpredictable results - if both phone and FollowMe are set to also ring an external number, you would end up generating TWO calls to the external number - I don’t think this is what you want.

DID Routing will still follow FollowMe even if the target of the DID is an extension.

Perhaps post a screen-shot of your forwarding like this:

Then we can see where it’s going wrong…

Ext 4000 here has a DID as shown. When calling the DID 3129624707 the phone with EXT 4000 rings. When I activate Forwarding from the menu on the phone to forward the calls from EXT 4000 phone it simply goes to its voicemail. However If i enable follow me and insert a number with the pound at the end, when a call is transferred to EXT 4000 from our main line then call forwarding works. Call forwarding only works when being transferred from internally with follow me but not when the EXT is called using the DID

In this example when calls are transferred internally from the main line to EXT 4000 they will forward correctly to the number in the follow-me list. I’m grateful that feature is working and I understand it. But however EXT 4000 has a DID which is posted in the comment above. When calling the DID directly the call is not forwarded. I have tried having follow-me list active when trying, tried it off, tried setting from the phone with always forward, busy forward and every other way but when calling the DID, I cant seem to get forwarding to work

How are external calls being routed to that extension? Is it through a ring group?

You also have the initial ring time set to 7 seconds, so before the call ever forwards, the system is going to wait (ring) for 7 seconds on the primary extension - Maybe this is why you are thinking it’s not working.

As far as the DID, if you are routing it straight to the extension, it will work - if you are ringing a Ring Group or Queue and you have the Ignore Call Forward setting set, it will fail:

In a Queue, this is the setting to ignore the call forward:

What are you using?

If it’s in a ring group, just add a # after the extension number in the ring list and it will respect any follow me settings.

Nice - I didn’t know that…

Does x4000 have an Outbound Caller ID set?
