Backup / Restore Practices

Hello again everybody,

We currently document the version of FreePBX running on our given systems, then perform a full backup. We’ve at times had to restore the backup to new hardware without success, even though we downloaded the exact version that was running on the prior system. We ended up rebuilding it from scratch.

What is the recommended way to have a backup of a FreePBX system in order to restore for a failed hardware/crashed hard disk scenario?

We thought about imaging, and storing images, but I’d rather just have a system backup (.tgz) and be able to restore to an identical system, but that is always problematic, probably because there might be newer modules, or something else that wasn’t identical.
