Backup 2.11 and Restore to 17 broke intercom auto answer

After many years of managing a FreePBX 2.11 system, we plan to update to FreePBX 17. This decision was made after learning about the the ability to migrate via backup and restore from 2.11 to the new 17. I was amazed that it all mostly worked! (Huge time saver using that process- over 100 phones!)

This new FreePBX 17 is using the official distro, installed on an LXC container. Phones register and can communicate fine, outbound, inbound, all great!

So in testing (before going live,) it was determined that the page / intercom no longer caused the phones and paging adapters to answer. They would just ring. *80 from one phone to another would not work. But those phones and adapters worked without issue on the old system, and they work fine on a virgin FreePBX 17 system. So something in our backup / restore process appears to have messed up the auto-answer.

The Asterisk logs don’t seem to show much. I suppose a wireshark trace would. Is that the next step? Or maybe I’m missing something very simple- like a check box or other setting somewhere?

Ideas?

Thanks,

Peter

So, I found the answer.

In the Paging and Intercom section, on the Settings tab, the Auto Answer Defaults field was set to “None.”
After changing that to “Default,” the Auto-Answer functionality began working.

So, I guess I’m all set…!

Thanks for sharing – glad it worked out so smoothly – and welcome to the forums! :cowboy_hat_face:

Somewhat related, am linking in the recent notice about changes to Legacy backend services as yours is a great example of a successful FreePBX upgrade from quite a few cycles ago. (Tried to find the exact date that 2.11 went EOL but close as it gets looks like this topic Is there any EOL(end of life) announcement for freePBX 2.11? – anyhow, we’ve come a long way since then and now provide much more transparency around the planning of FreePBX Versions in response to feedback from community members.)

Please consider hanging around for a bit and continue to contribute your experiences with v17. Or at least come back in a few more years to check in! :frog:
