Address family not supported by protocol

> [2020-05-23 08:01:26] WARNING[2546] chan_sip.c: sip_xmit of 0xb7407968 (len 627) to 159.65.251.173:31964 returned -1: Address family not supported by protocol

I have thousands of these in my logfiles. Any idea?

Does your server have an IPv4 address?

Maybe check the kernel log (dmesg) and main syslog for clues related to network problems.

Yes IPv4. The Router supports only that.

I could use a little more help here. I still get tons of

[2020-05-30 13:30:29] WARNING[3361] chan_sip.c: sip_xmit of 0x7f92f0048f80 (len 625) to 159.65.251.173:57620 returned -1: Address family not supported by protocol

IPv6 is disabled on the server. No IPv6 assiged.

IPv4 works find.

Doubt anyone can help you without more context to the problem. When did it start, what kind of log messages show up along with these, what is happening when you see these, etc.

I deteceted these warnings recently in the log files of my new FreePBX 15 system. However, I just saw that that have also been in my old 13 system.

I have IPv6 disabled on the 15 system and on the router.
I took out the IPv6 out of the hosts file.

The system runs fine.

There is one warning message per second.

I have no idea what else to check.

A clue comes from the name associated with this IP:

173.251.65.159.in-addr.arpa	name = 5.sipis.acrobits.cz.

Acrobits “SIPIS” is the service used by Acrobits Softphone/Groundwire to do remote registration and push notifications. Are you using that?

Perhaps tcpdump on that IP address will yield even more clues.

Thanks, I appreciate your help very much!
These are all all IPs from Acrobits push service.
We use their Groundwire client a lot, as it has a lot of configuration options…

I guess they send a request as IPv4 and expect Asterisk to answer with IPv6?

Please enable SIP debug to see what is triggering the error.

I have tried to disable as much as possible as there is just too much traffic.

Does this show anything?

I found it, I changed the transport protocol from sips to sip, that handled it!

Thank you so much for showing me how to debug!
