Voicemail Not Working

Hi guys, I work with Mark. I know what you want, and where to do it. Quick Question. Will that affect normal operations of the system when I run those commands? I will try to do that first thing tomorrow morning.

Thanks

Depends. I can’t give you an answer on that.

Here’s what I got:

nimbus*CLI> voicemail reload
Reloading voicemail configuration…
== Parsing ‘/etc/asterisk/voicemail.conf’: Found
== Parsing ‘/etc/asterisk/vm_general.inc’: Found
== Parsing ‘/etc/asterisk/vm_email.inc’: Found
– Remove dpma_message_context/proxy/1, registrar=digium_phone_module; con=dpma_message_context(0xb54ec578); con->root=0xb58d58d8
– Added extension ‘proxy’ priority 1 to dpma_message_context

Looks like your voicemail is fine to me. Try uploading some logs here

I tried to call into voicemail today using the correct username and password, here are the logs

Does the VM Box exist on the hard drive?

I would have to check with Ed on that but I would assume so. This was a standard FreePBX Distro. I did make the call above from a cell phone with zoiper if that explains any of the oddities you see.

Is this problem happening with one extension, or all extensions?

If one extension, SSH into your PBX and from the CLI type cd /var/spool/asterisk/voicemail/default
Once you’re in that directory, type in ls and press enter. Is there a directory here for the extension you are having problems with?
If so, great, we just want to establish there is an active voicemail directory for the extension you are having problems with.

You may want to test the DTMF settings on an extension as well, as this can cause the PBX to not recognize key inputs correctly. From the FreePBX GUI goto Applications > Extensions and select any extension. Scroll down to DTMF Signaling. It will probably be set to RFC2833, set it to inband. If it is already set to inband, set it to RFC2833. Save and apply your changes. From the extension you just modified, dial *97 and test your voicemail.

Let us know how that works out.

I checked the directory and there are 8 folders for voicemailboxes. There are 74 mailboxes created and they show up in Voicemail Admin as (default) (unactivated). I created a new extension 2299 and created a voicemailbox for it. When I call *97 I get the login prompt, I enter the VMB and it asked for the password, and I get a login Incorrect. Here is some of the log. It shows that the system gets a status of Failed when it looks for the mailbox.

I think it is an issue with the GUI creating the initial directories for the mailboxes themselves.

For what it is worth ALL but the extension I created were created by using bulk extension upload.

It now appears that we have a second system that has been installed by the same Tech that is experiencing the same issue.

You are using version 12. There are thousands of installs. None of them (except you) experience this issue. Hard to really say it’s the GUI

I didn’t mean to besmirch the GUI Andrew, it does a fantastic job. I just don’t know any other way to add the directory entries without the GUI, I am assuming that is how they get created. Murphy has taken a liking to me lately and I wish he would quit it! The new mailbox is not in the directory. Any ideas?

Hi, can you send the config of your voicemail.conf? In some strange situations I have seen that the voicemail get edit somehow and places some extensions on a different context.

Here is the voicemail.conf:

In the directory for the mailboxes, 2102,2104,2112,2145,2175,2176,2178, and 2181 have been created. I see now that some of them are included in the list above and some not. Can someone answer me when the directory entry is made? This was a fresh install.

The [] below [default]

will spoil your whole day, delete it

There’s other issues as well. Like:

dicko, TM1000

Took me a couple of minutes to figure out what you are saying. Kinda slow today I guess. I’ll report back what happens after I delete those items.

Thanks

I love remote phones and SSH. Thanks Dicko and TM1000, I edited the voicemail.conf file and removed those items. Deleted the voicemail I created and recreated it and now we are good to go.

Thank you very much for the help!!

It’s not the first time that has happened/been reported , it would be nice to see what happened to corrupt that file, Voicemail (comedian Mail) is very legacy and just parses the file, some other process/script mangled it.

An audit of what you did before it got screwed up would be very diagnostic if you can provide it.

Thanks dicko. I will get you as much info as I can. This system was installed a couple of months ago. They just decided to sta4 using the voicemail. I know for sure the guy who installed it used the Ext bulk process. He missed several entries and there were numerous issues. Phones needed context entered, and several other issues that I can’t remember. That’s all I got for now

As I said, Voicemail is “Comedian Mail” it is defined only by that flat file and always has been ( the one you needed to fu^% with) some folks are cleverer than they think so probably just let it go, they won’t fix that legacy stuff
