About the General Help category

#Welcome to the FreePBX General Section.

This category is meant as a catch all for things that don’t have their own category, when posting please hit the category drop down to see if there may be a better place for your post.

NOTE: THIS POST IS MEANT TO HELP YOU GET THE MOST FROM THE FORUMS. THIS POST SHOULD NOT BE USED AS AN ADMONISHMENT. IF YOU FEEL ANOTHER MEMBER IS BEING ABUSIVE PLEASE MESSAGE A STAFF MEMBER.

Though “General” implies everything this is indeed not the place for everything. General is a place for things that don’t have a place.

Things that do have a place should be posted in their place.

##Some examples:

  • Distro related items
  • Install issues
  • Beta issues
  • For a list of topics please see the dropdown when creating a link. Proper post placement allows the proper audience to see your issue

Please note most common questions can be answered by looking at the documentation on our WIKI. There is also a chance someone else has seen it or asked about it before, please use the search function.

If you have a BUG to report please file a bug report Here

There is also an instructional video on filing bugs

When posting please note the more info you give the more likely you are to get a fast and proper answer. Also some of the more seasoned members are unlikely to answer things that can be found in the WIKI

A good post will have:

  • What the issue is.
  • What happened?
  • What did you expect to happen?
  • What you did leading up to the issue?
  • Can you repeat the result?
  • How can others repeat your result
  • What software versions are you using?
  • FreePBX
  • Asterisk
  • DAHDI (if related)
  • What Distro are you using?
  • Name
  • Version

Some information on asking quality questions

When posting please also provide relevant logs or configuration files. You may use a pastebin service or wrap links in tripple bactics ( ` X3.)
Please edit out any sensitive information such as phone numbers or passwords.</mark?

We encourage you to help others as you go along and learn together. We try to document things as much as we can but if you see a common item or scenario not documented please feel free to contribute.

Thank you for using FreePBX
